Ground broken on new Health and Wellbeing facility

The Community Sports Foundation is delighted to announce that ground has officially been broken at The Nest for the build of a new Health and Wellbeing facility.

Thanks to a generous grant from The Geoffrey Watling Charity this new facility will provide a dedicated space for young and disadvantaged people across Norfolk to access essential health, wellbeing and educational services.

A multi-purpose and inclusive space

Marking the next stage in The Nest’s development, the new space will feature interactive technology and adaptive equipment to ensure an inclusive design accessible by all. Highly flexible, the facility will be able to serve as a fitness centre, classroom or community space as needed. With accessible changing rooms it will be a truly inclusive environment where everyone can participate and thrive.

With facilities at The Nest currently operating at full capacity it is expected that, once up and running, the Foundation will be able to reach over 500 additional individuals in need. Offering them a supportive community, this Health and Wellbeing facility will give individuals access to state-of-the art resources in which to realise their full potential.

A lasting legacy

In recognition of the grant awarded, the Foundation is proud to name this new facility in honour of Geoffrey Watling, whose legacy will continue to positively impact the lives of so many in Norfolk. The facility will ensure that his commitment to football and community support lives on for generations to come.

Jackie Thornton, Director of Strategy and Development of the Community Sports Foundation said:

“We are so grateful to The Geoffrey Watling Charity for their continued support to Foundation. They have been involved since the inception of the vision to Build The Nest and have provided funding at each phase. This new investment will enable us to support more people to improve their skills, education, mental health and wellbeing. Working alongside our technical team who also support the Foundation as Partners we have progressed the build very quickly and plan to open in the new year.”

Alan Watling, Trustee of The Geoffrey Watling Charity said:

“We are absolutely delighted that Geoffrey’s legacy continues to make a real, lasting impact on communities across Norfolk. Geoffrey was deeply passionate about supporting local initiatives, and through this project at The Nest, we are proud to see his commitment to helping the community he loved being carried forward in such a meaningful and inclusive way.”

The delivery and development of this Health and Wellbeing facility continues under the guidance of key partners integral to The Nest since its inception; Richard Utting Associates, Chaplin Farrant and Ovamill
